What is Birth Photography?

Many different thoughts are associated with birth photography and what exactly it is that a birth photographer captures.

A birth photographer’s aim is to not invade personal space or make you feel uncomfortable. The role of the birth photographer is to capture all the moments as they happen, at home, in a birthing centre, in a hospital. Birth Photography is about capturing the journey of labour as you welcome your child earth side. It is the first touch, the first breath, the first cry… moments you don’t ever want to forget.

Birth Photographers Australia understand that the mother’s primary focus is not on all of the different aspects surrounding her to form her birth experience – her mind is focused on one thing only; giving birth to her baby! Having a birth photographer there to document this time allows the mother and father to relive the experience of their child’s birth through the photographs, and often times have a totally different perspective on what happened that day. Birth Photography allows dad to be completely present in supporting his partner through this journey, not to try and get photos of his child with hands trembling. It allows him to be part of the story, to share in the sheer excitement, while it is captured by a photographer who specialises in this genre ensuring you have the memories to hold on to for years to come.

Simply put, birth photography is about tastefully capturing and eternally preserving the emotions and journey you and your partner experience on the day of your child’s arrival.
